Willie Pep who was born in the Italian section of Hartford, Connecticut  went on to become One of the Greatest fighters the world has ever know ” This man was World Featherweight Champion from 1942 to 1951 and fought for twenty six years. He wrote a book about such fighters as Chico Vejar, Kid Gavilan,Joey Giardello, Billy Graham, Rocky Marciano, Ezzard Charles and others who are longer kids that came from the ghetto to a living from boxing . They were middle aged men who had proven to be the most celebrated fighters  that ever entered the ring. As boxers, they had a different kind of respectability in our society, mainly because they had to fight for a living. No warrior stalked the arena   more gallant than these kids.

Willie Pep was from the Italian section of Hartford, Connecticut, and talks about his days in New York when he met Tony Janiro,  from Youngstown: who was sixteen at the time. He goes on to say that Tony was called “Baby Face” and recalls, he came to New York in 1942 with an old valise,an extra pair of coveralls and  twenty five bucks in his pocket.—–    Willie fought a total of 241 fights with 65 KOs and 164 decisions from 1938 until 1966Scan-001
